Google’s monthly security updates to Android which fix issues raised as CVE’s are now a common and if US carrier Verizon is to be believed, then next months is right on track for release on January 3rd.

The update information is based on update info published for the Google Pixel and Pixel XL, and with monthly updates generally hitting early in the month, it’s no real surprise that the latest update is coming. The update will simply contain ‘the most up to date Androidâ„¢ security patch on your device’ according to Verizon and take the build on both the Pixel and Pixel XL to NMF26U.

In the US, Verizon is the exclusive carrier partner for the Pixel and Pixel XL, much like Google’s partnership with Telstra here in Australia. Unlike Verizon however, Telstra didn’t mention the security update in their December 16th software update post and based on previous releases, it could be delayed. So, if you’re a Telstra Pixel user get ready to swap SIMs if you want the update in a timely manner.

We’ll know more about the January release when Google lists off the updates on their security blog next month.
