After announcing in September that Commonwealth Bank would launch support for Android Pay later this year, it’s now available for selected cards and there’s a bonus for using Android Pay for Commbank customers.

The support is limited with neither Visa or AMEX supported, but a selection of Debit and Credit MasterCards are supported according to the Android Pay support site. The full list of Commonwealth Bank cards supported in Android Pay includes:

  • Awards Credit Card
  • Gold Awards Credit Card
  • Platinum Awards Credit Card
  • Diamond Awards Credit Card
  • Low Rate Credit Card
  • Low Rate Gold Credit Card
  • Low Fee Credit Card
  • Low Fee Gold Credit Card
  • Business Awards Credit Card
  • Business Gold Awards Credit Card
  • Business Platinum Awards Credit Card
  • Debit MasterCard, Platinum Debit MasterCard
  • Business Debit MasterCard

For the launch of Android Pay, the Commonwealth Bank has launched a neat rebate offer. Commbank says ‘use your phone to tap and pay with Android Pay or the CommBank app. For a limited time, get $20 back after the first 3 times you tap and pay with your CommBank Mastercard on Android Pay or the CommBank app’. This is in addition to the current Google promotion for new Android Pay users, with the chance to win gift vouchers for adding new cards and using them to tap and pay.

Android Pay is now available at over 50 financial institutions in Australia including with the addition of the Commonwealth Bank, three of the ‘Big Four’ banks in Australia. National Australia Bank, the fourth of these banks is also rumoured to be launching Android Pay support at some stage in the near future as part of their expansion of their digital wallet strategy, though nothing official has been announced.

If you’re a Commonwealth Bank customer with a supporting card, download Android Pay from Google Play and try it out today.

Step in the right direction. Much better to have everything in Android Pay instead of switching with CommBank app all the time.

Hopefully Amex supported added soon for the Grocery, petrol and department store spend that earns the highest Award Points.
