Google Photos offers users quite a lot, from free cloud backups, unlimited photo storage (including high quality photos if you use a Pixel), but one of the better features is the automatic work it does behind the scenes, creating beautiful stylised photos, memory collages and more.

Now that Christmas is done and the New Year is fast approaching, Google has switched on the “Smiles of 2017” auto assistant feature, which creates a short film showcasing your selfies and some favourite memories from the last twelve months.

As you can see in the screenshot from Android Police, below, it will show up in Google Photos’ Assistant tab soon:

We haven’t seen this auto-created content show up on our phones in Australia, but do let us know if you see it, because if you do, it probably means we’ll all be that little bit closer to having it on our phones too!

I just got one of these: “They grow up so fast”. It is a montage of my toddler from birth until now.

Reasonably well done. The photos it chose were mostly very good, but a few small missteps with blury photos chosen.

Yeah I got the same one couple of days ago.
