Anyone who jumped on the recently released running focused New Balance RunIQ will be happy to note they will be receiving Android Wear 2.0 this week with the company announcing it will be available by April 14th.

In a post on their support website, the company has said ‘Upgrading to Android Wear 2.0 will be available no later than April 14, 2017’. The watch will simply prompt users to update when ready, and it’s a simple process involving a restart of the watch from there.

New Balance has also listed a set of features that will come with Android Wear 2.0, which lines up mostly with what we’ve seen with Android Wear 2.0 features, but also has some specific RunIQ fixes:

  • Improved GPS acquisition when paired with an iOS device
  • Updates for overall battery life
  • Google Play Store on RunIQ – no phone needed when connected to WiFi
  • Google Play Music and untethered running for iOS users
  • Customizable watch faces with Complications
  • Improved Bluetooth connectivity when paired with an iOS device
  • Onscreen mile, kilometer, and lap notifications are bigger and include the previous split time

The New Balance RunIQ sells in Australia from the New Balance website for $495, and comes with built-in GPS, heart-rate monitor and more.

The Android Wear 2.0 update has now reached LG, Polar, Fossil, Casio, Nixon, TAG and Michael Kors watches, we’re still waiting on a few more, but the rollout is happening so it shouldn’t take too long to reach your wrist.
