Nexus 9 - Header

Owners of the Nexus 9 are now able to install CyangogenMod on their tablet, with nightlies of CM12 now available to download.

CM12 is based on Lollipop, so there’s very little to lose – except obviously OTA udpates from Google – from installing the ROM. CyanogenMod is one of the oldest, and certainly one of the easiest to install third party ROMs for mainstream devices thanks to their Cyanogen Installer which is an easy to use experience with a follow the bouncing ball type setup. CyanogenMod 12 Nightlies are all that’s available for the Nexus 9 currently, so rather than the installer (won’t work for the Nexus 9 yet), you will have to go through a slightly more involved setup, unlocking your bootloader and flashing the ROM from there.

As with any time you do anything potentially risky to your data, we cannot stress strongly enough that you read LOTS of links and understand the risks before you venture down this path. Then IF you’re still keen, back up your data first before you start the process and make sure you aren’t rushed or you’ll make mistakes.

Is CM on a Nexus 9 an attractive prospect for you, or do you feel as though you’ll lose something from the Nexus Experience?

The Cyanogen installer won’t work on the Nexus 9 currently. (I’m from the CM team so I can confirm)

That’s why I added “so rather than the installer (won’t work for the Nexus 9 yet), you will have to go through a slightly more involved setup, unlocking your bootloader and flashing the ROM from there.”
