Well, it’s official. After multiple carriers and retailers across the globe started to halt sales and offer full refunds on the Note 7 device, Samsung head office has officially announced a temporary stop sale, or replacement, of the device worldwide, effective immediately. Here is Samsung’s official statement from their media site:
We are working with relevant regulatory bodies to investigate the recently reported cases involving the Galaxy Note7. Because consumers’ safety remains our top priority, Samsung will ask all carrier and retail partners globally to stop sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note7 while the investigation is taking place.
We remain committed to working diligently with appropriate regulatory authorities to take all necessary steps to resolve the situation. Consumers with either an original Galaxy Note7 or replacement Galaxy Note7 device should power down and stop using the device and take advantage of the remedies available.
This is the second time in as many months that Samsung has had to stop worldwide sales / distribution of the troubled Note 7 due to safety concerns that the devices spontaneously erupted into smoke and flames, apparently even when powered off and not on charge, if recent reports are accurate.
Once again we must tell all Note 7 users, be their handsets original or replacement stock, to back up their data, power down the device and immediately contact Samsung or your place of purchase for further instructions.
What’s next for the Note 7? Pending the outcome of a multi-jurisdictional investigation into the cause of the fires we could easily see the device permanently shelved, and the coming days and weeks will tell the story.
They should have stuck with a Note 6 – the ‘7 was clearly rushed ; )
Samsung paid the ultimate price by displeasing the Versioning Gods by skipping the Note 6.
Oh I wish I had an original still in the packaging imagine what that will be worth in a few years. Do you think that this is the worst smart phone issue faced by a manufacturer ever?
Sad news for Samsung, great news for Google, LG and Apple I guess.
Thats exactly true for my situation. Ill be looking at either a pixel xl, v20 or iphone 7 plus as a replacement for my note7
Well tbh, theres not much else to choose from at the moment here. No Moto Z/Z Play, no Axon 7, Oneplus 3 or Idol 4S. Hopefully that’s gonna change pretty soon.
No interest in the S7 Edge? Similar specs and features, just no pen and smaller screen – but same as PixelXL and iP7+.
The S7 edge is a great phone but I don’t know if I will ever buy another phone with a curved screen like the S7 edge unless I’m forced to. It looks great but it can be clumsy when typing, almost impossible to find a good screen protector and most cases don’t really protect the edges from a side drop. I will miss the water resistance though.
At this point, it’s hard to believe they can do anything but discontinue the Note 7 and accept returns of all Note 7s for a full refund… the only way around it would be to prove that the replacements are fine and that the “replacements” catching fire were either wrongly labelled or otherwise not real replacements. But if your product has a potential deadly flaw and the allegedly fixed version still has it, you’re done, you don’t get a second round of replacements. And the Note 8 currently on the drawing board will need to be both renamed and tested… Read more »
