HTC have a new lower end phone arriving on the market soon, the HTC Desire X. Combining naming conventions from the old series and the new the Desire X will possibly be launched at IFA in Germany in a few days time in a strangely familiar range of colours Blue and White. With some lower end specs on board the Desire X could be aimed at the mid to low end range of the market but it still seems to carry a pretty decent amount of hardware and improves with a few upgraded features on the current One Series :
- 4 inch 800×480(WVGA) Super LCD Screen
- 1GHz Dual-Core CPU
- 768MB RAM
- 4GB ROM with microSD Card Slot
- 5 MP camera, AF, LED flash, BSI sensor, F2.0, 28mm, WVGA video recording, HTC Image Sense Chip
- Android 4.04 with Sense 4.1
- 1650mAh Removable Battery
- Beats Audio
- 118.5×62.3×9.3 mm @ 114grams
The inclusion of microSD Card slot and removeable battery are the big advantage over the current One Series as these have been pretty much requested by most people I’ve spoken to about their HTC phones. I’m still intrigued by HTC’s insistence on putting 768MB RAM into phones although given the choice between that or 512MB I know which I’d choose.
25GB Dropbox for 2 years is included in the deal as well as per the recent One series handsets so that seems to be going well for them, as does the inclusion of Beats Audio which didn’t seem to be going so well for them with their recent sale of stock back to Beats Audio but they seem intent on keeping it, I wonder if we’ll be seeing the inclusion of the Beats Headphones with this headset? The screen is a Super LCD but not the Super LCD 2 screen seen on the One X which may not look as good but we’ll have to wait and see how the screen looks if or when it arrives here in Australia.
the back is so ugly…i mean isn’t it too obvious?
So much for focusing on just “One” series.
I think this will be part of a 6 monthly refresh? going from 20 odd phones a year to 6 (3 every 6 months) is a pretty good start.
When did the Desire name go from being a flagship phone for HTC to midrange at best?
When they stopped releasing updates to the latest OS for any phone with the Desire moniker it seems 🙁
