Whilst Chromebooks aren’t actually Android, we at Ausdroid are watching Chromebooks and ChromeOS with interest. Unfortunately both Samsung and Google have deemed that the latest model Samsung Chromebooks can’t be purchased outside of the US Market but Mobicity has now advised that they now have the Samsung Chromebook in stock for $399 + Shipping with a lead time of around 5-7 days. They’ve also supplied Geoff with a sample unit which he will be putting through its paces over the next few days and weeks. If you’re not familiar the Samsung Chromebook (XE303C12) Specs are :

Question: Is the temp directory, app offilne cache and internet cache all the same directory?
I got my delivery today. Not sure where to look to answer your question though? There’s a file browser of sorts on it but it’s limited.
will it be able to boot Android or Linux? team ausdroid do u know what sort of bootloader it has?
I’ve seen people put Linux on previous Chromebooks like the CR-48, i`m just starting to look into hacks for Chromebooks myself.
Short answer: Yes
There’s already hacks out there to put Ubuntu on these bad boys, so it’s only a matter of time before other distro’s or an Android boot image is available.
At $399 + Shipping that’s quite a hike from the US$250 :'(
Considering they have to import it, offer a statutory warranty, make some money and also charge GST, the price is fair.
I agree there’s not a whole lot they can do but it makes the $249 instant buy (if this is your thing) into a $hmmmmaybenot.
There won’t be GST on it because it’s less than $1000. Might be better off buying through a site like http://www.priceusa.com.au directly.
There will be GST, unless they’re doing a Kogan and shipping them directly from abroad.
Do they give a warranty? It’s pretty important when you’re buying stuff that’s not supported outside the US, UK, etc.
I went the ‘cheaper’ option and got the original CR-48, still costing me $250 to import and then I have to worry about warranty, Mobicity isn’t a bad option IMHO when you think of it like that.
The cr48 uses an Atom doesn’t?
