For anyone that wasn’t keen/dedicated enough to get up in the small hours of the morning; myself included, the I/O Keynote has been edited and put online at the Google Developers Youtube channel.
It’s an absolute marathon, running just shy of 4 hours but if you’re interested in Android, Chrome or just generally Google-curious it’s worth your time to have a look at the Keynote. While there are a few touches that are really heavy on the geeky stuff, code and core infrastructure discussion for the most part it is very clean and focussed on user experience and what’s new.
The replay includes some interesting Q and A with Larry Page at the end of the Keynote address too and it’s worth sticking around for it since you’ve already invested over 3 hours of your time to the keynote anyway.
What was your favorite part or announcement of the Keynote for I/O 2013? Let us know in the comments below.
What a great speech by Larry.
honestly its the most disappointing IO keynote so far with no surprises or Android OS upgrades. I would say that while I hate Samsung, the announcement of the stock GS4 was the fave part because it gave me hope that other HW providers might follow suit.
Why do you hate Samsung? Also, I/O isn’t over, stop being so greedy. Google don’t owe us anything.
Because they make terrible software and ugly hardware I assume.
Hardware literally refers to what’s also inside the device. And that’s definitely not bad or ugly hardware. Sure maybe you don’t like the exterior hardware IE the plastic shell, but that does not affect your usage.
I never said bad hardware. I said ugly hardware which should be taken literally as just that. Samsung have absolutely no sense of aesthetic design and I finding it massively off putting.
The Galaxy S2 was great in design, and a lot of people wish they’d kept it that way. After that it sorta went down hill. I also think the S4 is a step up from the S3.
The Galaxy S2 was not a great design. It was a boring black slab with a prominent hardware home button – a striking resemblance to the the iPhone of the time. The S2 was one of the key triggers for Apple’s ‘trade dress’ legal case against Samsung that ended up contributing to around a billion dollars in damages. Apple even intend to add the S4 to their case against Samsung along with the S3. Samsung have no good designs in mobile. Nothing. They have great (arguably the best) hardware in terms of performance but their designs consistently suck.
They do intend adding the S4, I did read about that. Also people are being to picky, how good does a phone have to fucking look? It’s just going to be used, you’re not going to admire it’s aesthetics every time you get it out.
Start with cloning ugly iproducts, overpriced under power tablets (nexus excluded), underwhelming ICS update to GSII (let’s make it look like gingerbread), no updates for original GS after 12 months, new ‘low end’ phones not much cheaper than N4, not much better specced than my nexus S, locked bootloaders that need security holes to break into. I like Samsung the company as a whole, but their android products have been mostly flawed or underwhelming (barring GS3/4, Note (phones only)), yet they are synonymous with android in much of the public’s eye. That’s enough reason to dislike them. I agree about… Read more »
I hate samsung because of the human rights violation they allow to happen in the production of their phones, the same reason I hate Apple. Yeh I know other electronics providers do as well but Samsung are really bad. Not a fan of touchwiz either but thats not a reason to hate em. Also I don’t think it is greedy to want your phones advertised features to work. All I really wanted was a Bluetooth fix for the Nexus 4. I want to use a game controller, but since G/LG messed up the USB OTG you can’t use a wired… Read more »
Pretty much every huge electronic company develops their stuff in 3rd world countries. This isn’t restricted to Samsung and Apple.
They said and demonstrated quite clearly that this was a Google IO for developers. I still stayed up to watch the keynote and enjoyed it.
