Looking for a mobile plan with massive inclusions? Look no further!

Almost all of the 2017’s big new smartphones are on now sale, and unsurprisingly, telcos are out there fighting for your hard earned, hoping you’ll lock yourself into a two-year contract.

This has led to some dramatic shifts in the plan space, with data inclusions trending upward in a big way. Telstra and Optus now have plans with over 100GB, and Vodafone and Virgin Mobile have new options 50GB and 30GB as their top tier plans.

Why get this much data? In addition to making bill shock next to impossible, it gives you a lot more freedom.

If you took up a 100GB plan, you could binge on Netflix on Stan on your daily commute. You could tether your laptop instead of hunting for Wi-Fi. You could get a sharing SIM and use some of the data in your tablet or a portable modem. Or if you’re relatively gentle on your home broadband, you could kill two birds with one stone and replace your fixed line connection.

So if you’re keen to go big, here are the biggest data inclusion plans around.

Big data and a new phone

If you’re after the biggest plans around, you’ll typically need to sign a 24-month contract. This does however mean you’ll end up with one of the latest and greatest Android phones – such as a Pixel 2 or a Galaxy Note 8 – without any extra repayment fees.

Telstra and Optus will also give you a little bit of data to use overseas when it comes to their high-end plans. On Telstra’s top plan, you’ll get unlimited talk and text and 4GB of roaming data in select countries, while Optus while offers unlimited talk and text and 1.5GB of roaming data per month while in “zone one” countries. And of course, Vodafone continues to offer $5 per day roaming on all its post-paid plans.

Here are the big inclusion options for the Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8, HTC U11, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, and Huawei Mate 10.

BYO phone, big data, and no contract

If you’re happy with your current smartphone, there’s plenty of high-inclusion SIM only plans around. While the best value SIM only plans tend to require a 12-month contract, there’s a couple of great month-to-month offers from smaller telcos. You will however need to pay an upfront setup fee on some of these.

You won’t get quite as much data as on a 24-month contract, but we’re still seeing plenty of plans with 15GB or more.

BYO phone, and big data on a contract

And if you’re okay with signing a contract and shackling yourself to one provider for a year, you tend to get more data for less, especially when it comes to the big four. You won’t get as much data as the crazy 24-month contracts, but there’s plenty of options with 15GB or more.

3G only plans

If you’re after a load of data at a smaller price, a couple of Optus MVNOs offer 3G only plans with large allowances. At the top end, you’ll pay about $80 per month for 90GB on a no contract plan, which isn’t bad when you consider Telstra charges almost $200 for 100GB.

The obvious catch is that 3G data is quite a bit slower than 4G, which could be an issue if you’re also hoping to tether your connection. You’ll also probably notice a little extra latency, but services like Netflix, Stan, Spotify, and YouTube are still more than usable on 3G speeds – even when it comes to HD.

If you’re not sure whether 3G speeds will sate your internet desires, you’ll be pleased to know these plans are all contract free. If you take one up and you’re unhappy, you can move back to a 4G plan after a month without any early exit fees.
