Amazon has today announced that the Echo Spot is arriving in Australia next week, with pre-orders for the device, which will cost $199, now able to be placed.
The Echo Spot offers users all the functionality of the Amazon Echo, including controlling your smart devices around your home, or playing music but it now comes in a smaller form factor and with the added benefit of a built-in circular display which can display the time, show lists or even play video.
For the launch of the Echo Spot in Australia, Amazon has teamed up with ABC NEWS and FOX SPORTS Australia to offer video flash briefings – the short news excerpts that bring you up to date with the days happenings, but now with video.
Sylvia Ding, Alexa Australia and New Zealand Country Manager, said of the Echo Spot launch
Echo Spot combines the popular small design of Echo Dot with the added benefit of a display, and the features you love about Alexa into a stylish and compact device. See the weather, watch video news briefings, glance at your alarm clock, make video calls, and more—we think customers in Australia will find lots of places for Echo Spot in their homes.
The Echo Spot include Amazons second generation far-field technology with four microphones, acoustic beam-forming technology and enhanced noise cancellation which Amazon says allows the Echo Spot to hear you from across the room. These microphones, plus the built-in camera in the Echo Spot allow you to perform video conferencing, either between Echo Spot devices around your home, or with other Echo Spot devices owned by your family or friends.
Available for pre-order today from amazon.com.au/echospot, the Amazon Echo Spot comes in black or white and is available for pre-orders starting today for $199 (RRP) or through select retailers including JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, and Myer. Amazon says that Echo Spot Devices will ship to customers and be available at retailers beginning 26 April, 2018.
$130 in the US, $199 here …… hmmm
Forget this and just tell us when you are going to launch the Fire HD 10 here, ehh Amazon? And at a comparable discount price please.
This would be my next bedside clock if not for the camera…..that’s bridge I ain’t willing to cross just yet.
I backed a Kickstarter a while back that was for stickon webcam cover sliders. I’m thinking one of those.
Thanks Daniel only concern with that is I think at launch Amazon said the camera was regulating the auto brightness function. I could be wrong….I suppose if true would have to make a compromise.
Sorry my mistake….done my research and the ambient light sensor is right next to sensor and just need to be careful not cover it
I started with an Amazon Echo and Dot. But Amazon did such an appalling job of bringing the service to Australia that I quickly jumped to Google Home. If you want to future proof yourself, stick with Google.
I’ve got both. About to invest in a Firestick for the TV
