Microsoft could soon expand their support of digital assistants on the Xbox One to include Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa in addition to the existing support for their own digital assistant: Cortana.
The report comes via Windows Central who supplied a screenshot which came from ‘a reliable source who is familiar with Amazon and Microsoft’s efforts to link Alexa and Cortana’. The screenshot purports to offer users the option to ‘search for Xbox in the assistant app’s skills’ after enabling the digital assistants option. While it’s not an official announcement, the screenshot looks pretty good.
Exactly what you’ll be able to do with the digital assistant support isn’t clear, but it appears it’s likely to be more a Google Assistant app or Alexa Skill that ties in with the Xbox One rather than built-in ‘Hey Google’ or ‘Alexa’ support. Still, you could soon be telling your Xbox to ‘Play Red Dead Redemption on the Xbox One’ if this is real.
