With the Samsung Galaxy S5 arriving in-store in Australia today, the team at iFixit has torn the phone apart to see what makes it tick.
The good news is, getting the back of is easy, but from there it apparently gets a lot harder, with iFixit advising that the Display will need to be removed from the phone to replace any of the components inside.
Overall, the Galaxy S5 received a 5 out of 10 for repairability. This is a good result compared to its competition the HTC One (M8) which received a 2 out of 10
, but worse than its predecessor the Galaxy S4 which received an 8 out of 10.

Any way you look at it, phones these days are getting more intricate and harder to repair. Best make sure you’re up to date with Australian Consumer Law which dicatates a product must be repaired within a reasonable period; it’s not a clearcut X years warranty, but it does afford you some protection and with most phones on a 2 year contract, it’s reasonable to expect you’d be covered for that….just don’t drop your phone, no-one covers that.
Everyone must admit, Samsung does a great manufacturing job. Take a look at the other manufacturers – the inners of the phone are held in and covered in glue and tape.
The inside of this GS5 is so clean and organised, and a pleasure to look at. This people is great technology at it’s best. (And yes, the screen is glued in, but that is obviously to maintain the water proofing)
