We’ve previously reported that the NSW Government and Cubic Systems Australia (makers of London’s Oyster Card) had released a couple of Opal Card smartcard wallets and holders for Samsung Devices earlier this year. Transport for NSW have announced another series of colourful smart wallets which stick to the back of your smartphone to hold your Opal Card in place.
According to the Shop Transport NSW website, the smart wallet is made of durable silicone with a universal 3M adhesive suitable for most phones (and covers) which fit most flatbacked smart phones, so the HTC One (M7), One (M8) and the LG Flex would more than likely not be supported given they have a curved back.
There is also an issue with the wallet holding the Opal card in it, as the website states that users will need to do the following to do the following:
- Avoid storing Opal card with other cards that have microchip technology (e.g. PayPass™, Visa payWave)
- Switch off the Near Field Communication (NFC) function if your mobile device is NFC enabled.
The smart wallets can now be bought online only at the moment from the Shop Transport NSW website for $16.95 plus postage and handling and comes with two smart wallets in various colours.
Just FYI if you get the new LG G3 (amazing phone 3 days in and loving it) but the opal card holder doesn’t fit anywhere on this phone due to the position of the speaker & buttons on the back it won’y fit without covering 1 or the other
so is there plans for an app so we can just use our nfc phones..????
Why would you?
Melbourne myki will feel shame to hear about this.
