Sony has really begun to get their marketing might behind the Xperia X line up announced at Mobile World Congress, the Xperia X line started with the Xperia X, Xperia X Performance and Xperia XA, but today expands the Xperia XA to an Ultra model with a 6″ display.
The Xperia XA appears to be a slightly lower end model of the Xperia XA, losing the 2K resolution in favour of the FullHD 1920×1080 resolution in order to bring you a full 6″ display. Sony also moves to a Mediatek processor with the Xperia XA Ultra, going with a MT6755 a 64-bit octa-core Helio P10 processor clocked at 2GHz. The design of the phone appears similar to the Xperia XA though in terms of design.
One place where the Xperia XA Ultra gets a boost over its smaller brother is the camera with the rear camera being bumped to a 21.5MP sensor, that Sony says is a ‘low-light sensor’, though they haven’t expanded on that exactly. The front-facing ‘selfie’ camera on the Xperia XA Ultra is a 16MP sensor which includes both a front-facing flash and Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), for night scene selfies.

Chris had some hands on time with the Xperia XA when it was announced at Mobile World Congress earlier this year and found the handset to be a good mix of Sony’s usual high level of design, saying they ‘feel absolutely premium in design and construction’.
Sony has announced the Xperia XA Ultra will be released in White, Black and Lime Gold in selected markets, though they will expand on which markets will see the Xperia XA when they start arriving in July. If you like the looks of the Xperia XA Ultra you’ll have to wait a little longer for Sony to advise whether this phone will be making an appearance in Australia.
