ZTE has announced today that they will be bringing their Axon 7 flagship phone to Australia in October.
With an eye catching design incorporate in a metal uni-body housing, Dolby Atmos stereo sound through the front facing stereo speakers and Android Marshmallow on board, ZTE is bringing out the big guns in Australia with the launch of the Axon 7. It is important to note however that the Axon 7 arriving in Australia is not the 6GB version that is headed to Asia, but the 4GB model that’s gone on-sale in the US recently.
The rest of the specs include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 Quad core processor, as well as 64GB of storage with an option for memory expansion through a microSD card slot (Note: ZTE says this supports UFS). The Dolby Atmos sound is powered by two dedicated audio chips from AKM, and has a 5.5″ AMOLED WQHD (2560 x 1440) display with Gorilla Glass 4 covering it.
ZTE are also advising that the phone is the first handset announced that can support Google’s Daydream VR solution that is integrated into Android Nougat – so an update to Nougat is very likely on its way as soon as Google launches it.
ZTE will be including Cat 6 LTE support with Band 28 LTE support for Optus and Telstra customers as well as the usual Band 3 (1800MHz) LTE support offered by all three mobile carriers in Australia. Beyond that Vodafone users will see Band 5 (850MHz) support and Optus 4G Plus customers can expect Band 40 (2300MHz) TD-LTE support.

Jacky Zhang, CEO of EMEA and APAC, ZTE Mobile said of the launch of the Axon 7
ZTE is excited to celebrate the announcement of the AXON 7 in Australia in the continuing roll-out of our latest flagship smartphone devices. With AXON 7’s unbeatable combination of an eye catching design, top-of-the-line specs and an affordable price, we’re positive about demand for the AXON 7.
ZTE has not yet announced pricing for the phone, with details on pre-sale and full release dates to be shared over the coming weeks. The ZTE Axon 7 sells for $399.98USD in the US which converts to $519.65AUD, so we expect to see competitive pricing once ZTE factors in taxes and other factors.
Will it have dual SIM support and dual SIM that supports AUS/USA LTE on both slots? Currently i have an LG V10 and when i go to the USA i only get 3G on my 2nd SIM due to the frequencies. The data speed on 3G irrespective of carrier is appalling hence the request for LTE band support.
The phone will have dual-SIM. ZTE Australia has announced these LTE Bands for the Australian model: TDD-LTE: 2500 MHz(Band 38), 2300 MHz(Band 40), 2400 MHz(Band 41) FDD-LTE: 2100 MHz(Band 1), 1900 MHz(Band 2), 1800 MHz(Band 3), 1700 MHz(Band 4), 850 MHz(Band 5), 2600 MHz(Band 7), 900 MHz(Band 8), 850MHz(Band 19), 700 MHz(Band 28) with Cat 6 (300Mbps downlink, 50Mbps uplink) In the US, you primarily use bands 2 and 4 across T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon, with a smattering of others 5 & 17 for AT&T, 13 for Verizon and 12 for T-Mobile. Sprint tends to use bands 25, 26 and… Read more »
Thanks Dan, looks like a win there. Lets hope the price is on the right side of $600 (or left side, depends on how you look at it).
Pretty sure you got a couple of the specs wrong by expanding the details that aren’t shown. I will check them later and get back to you Daniel. Dean – ZTE
Interesting. I copied them off the ZTE website.
And some added info slipped in mate. I will email you in the morning.
Its a pity it will be up around $700-800 as ZTE is a brand made for those who don’t want to spend a fortune on a good phone. I love my cheap ZTE Blade, and if I smash it I just buy another one. Won’t be doing that with Axon tho
Again another guess that is poorly made. ZTE aren’t releasing the price for a few weeks, but that doesn’t mean we don’t know our plans…
You know everything, huh? Well then I’ll have a axion for $200 thank you
I think you’ll find he does. Teggie is sort of the source when it comes to ZTE
Then you are part of the problem, and why these sites give me the s***s. You have the power to do something, yet you don’t. Stand up and say enough!!! Don’t be objective, be a tech supporter! Say no more $1200 phones! Actively do something!! Me? I’m lobbying ZTE to go outside the box. And Telstra, cos they disgust me. And don’t worry, I’m off this site. Don’t need to tell me how wrong I am. Cos I don’t care. I buy the phone. I see the price.
Bit of a condescending response to a comment that was actually spot on before release. $700 retail…
I love zte! cheap, quick, and if u smash em buy another one! But I really hope the pricing is not at sg7 levels. The reality is it will be around $750 which is a travesty for us android fans that want a great phone cheap
Fairly sure it will sell for between 700 and 800. Seems to be a perception in Australia that anything under 1000 is affordable…still this is exciting news.
Wrong on all counts. You will have to wait and see.
shocker alot of people likely to be disappointed by the price
over $650 for sure
why would you say that? What do you know that make your statement true? As I work for ZTE and am currently testing the device I would like to know why you would be so sure of something that we haven’t released or discussed.
ok , i would be happy to be wrong about this
I’m looking at getting this phone
Like the sound of this.
Certainly does.
That is a lovely looking phone! Not knowing much about ZTE, do they have a skin? What’s it like?
ZTE will now be getting behind thier competitors and outdated by release
by announcing this to come in october , the competitors will be ready to have new models out
Actually it takes some time to play catch up with the complete range of specs that this model has. If you think the competitors can catch up and release by October a matching device when it takes 5-6 months of solid work to get to the release stage at least then it will be amazing. I know a few devices that are comparable but not a complete match. Have to wait and see.
If it is around $550 it will fly off the shelves. Hope they improve the camera though,
Not much chance of them fixing the low light performance of the camera, still id buy this if its under 600. Need to retire my G3 asap.
Once i get some clear night sky’s I will be able to post some true low light shots.
Wow new firmware – looking forward to your links Teggie!. Still, hope AU pricing is reasonable somewhere close to 600.
In testing so far using the latest firmware – 4 days old – The camera is looking good. I will be posting on Facebook some new photos and building an album of the weekly testing as the testing progresses.
That’s awesome!
