At their IFA press event in Berlin, Sony has unveiled not only their Xperia XZ flagship, but a Compact version of the phone with the Xperia X Compact.
The Xperia X Compact is a smaller version of the Xperia XZ in design, but it also drops down in specs as well. The Xperia X Compact has a smaller, lower resolution 4.6″ 720P display (5.2″ 1080P on the XZ), Snapdragon 650 processor (it’s an 820 on the XZ), lower resolution 5MP front-facing camera (it’s 13MP on the XZ) and a smaller 2700mAh battery (it’s a 2900mAh battery on the XZ).
Sony has also dropped the IP65/68 waterproof rating that comes with the Xperia XZ, with the Xperia X Compact not rated at all.
But it’s all roses elsewhere, with the same Sony design and high-end 23 MP 1/2.3” Exmor RS sensor with triple image sensing technology on the rear, and a dedicated shutter button on the side of the phone.

Sony will as usual be delivering a range of Style Cover Stand and Style Cover Touch cases for the phone, which will be available to purchase separately at launch.
Sony has advised that the Xperia X Compact will launch ‘globally’ from this month, so stay tuned for more on this phone.
I love the design of this and the XZ, I just wish Sony would drop their proprietary home button design.
