Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL have passed through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the US, but they’ve now also passed through the Global Certification Forum (GCF) revealing two additional model numbers and LTE bands for the international models.
There are four models for the Google Pixel and Pixel XL (2 each), with the US versions labelled the G-G-2PW2100 (Pixel) and G-2PW4100 (Pixel XL). The newer International model numbers are the G-2PW2200 (Pixel) and G-2PW420 Pixel XL. The exciting thing for us here outside the US is that these new filings show the LTE band information for both phones that is pertinent to our networks.
The devices are both LTE CAT 11 with identical FDD/TDD LTE Bands. So far only Telstra has announced support for Cat 11 LTE on their networks here in Australia, advising they can support download speeds up to 600mbps.
The networks offer the usual Band 3 LTE, but also supports Band 5 (850MHz) for Vodafone customers and Band 28 for Optus/Telstra users. Optus users also have support for Band 40 for their 4G Plus network.
Listed bands:
FDD 4G/LTE – bands 01/02/03/04/05/07/08/12/13/18/19/20/21/26/28
TDD 4G/LTE – Bands 38/39/40
The major difference between the international and US versions appears to be the lack of support on the TDD LTE bands, with only Band 41 offered on the US models.
Of course the phones also support 3G Bands III,V and VIII, more commonly known by theire 850MHz, 900MHz and 2100MHz frequencies.
The phones are passed, but still haven’t been announced as yet with that announcement date rumoured to be coming on the 4th of October. We should see the phones on-sale here in Australia on October 20th according to our information. From the looks of things, we’ll have a heck of a network device in both phones, now if we could just get our hands on them.
I currently live in Australia (with the carrier Optus) but will relocate in the next 6 months to the US. I am wondering which variant will better suit me in the long run. I will be in NYC where coverage is not an issue but I generally go with AT&T when in the States as where my parents live they seem to only get decent coverage with AT&T and its good to have a working phone when visiting family. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I would like to avoid an issue I had 4 years ago where my AT&T… Read more »
I am surprised the main ATT LTE band 17 is missing!?
Band 17 was shown to be present in the FCC certification a few weeks back http://ausdroid.net/2016/08/15/confirmed-htc-making-two-nexus-phones-cleared-fcc/
So does this mean an Australian bought Pixel will get LTE in the US just as well or in as many areas as a US bought Pixel? From what I can tell the international Pixel is missing the FDD 25, 29 and 30 but I’m not tech savvy enough to know what the means from a practical standpoint. Thanks
just to clarify, my question pertains to a Goggle Pixel. The issue I had with not getting 4G in Australia was with an unlocked US bought iPhone 5 from AT&T, 4 years ago. Do you think I will have a similar issue if I buy an Australian Pixel and bring it to the US?
Wonder if it will be iPhone 7 and Note 7 pricing? I hope not.
In other words, it looks to cover the bands you’ll be interested in, and the international version is pretty much a superset of the US version (minus band 25, used in the US by Sprint, and CDMA).
More importantly, no sign of any of the other devices so far. No Google Home, or Chromecast Ultra, no Tablet or watches. No Daydream controller either.
