HTC’s upcoming ‘for U’ event will kick off online at 7pm AEDT tomorrow night, the event will be live-streamed but overnight the phone has leaked in spectacular fashion showing off what we can expect to see.

The phone has turned up on Chinese social networking site Weibo, before being removed. The pics were thankfully mirrored on Imgur before being taken down so we can check out the phone from all angles.

As you can see the phone has the familiar lines of a HTC phone, though the phone is a little squarer and now has a glossy finish to what appears to be a metal unibody design. The phone seems to be available in four colours, Silver, Black, Blue and either Gold or Pink depending on how you read the white balance in the pictures.

On the front, the phone has what appears to be a fingerprint sensor that could double as a physical home key, flanked by capacitive back and multi-tasking buttons. The big news though is the secondary display at the top of the phone, which displays app shortcuts, but if it’s anything like the LG V10/V20 and other models, it could be used to display notifications as well.

The rear of the phone seems clear of antenna lines, though they do sneak in at the sides. The rear also has quite a protruding camera bump with a flash, and likely a laser auto-focus beneath. That camera though is expected to be ‘industry-leading’ according to rumours so hopes are high that HTC can bring a high-end camera experience to bear.

The HTC live stream of the event should be up and active on HTC’s YouTube site shortly before kick off tomorrow night. We’ll be watching with keen interest, so join us to see what HTC has to offer.

After I bought Google pixel I don’t trust HTC’s build quality anymore. Won’t buy any HTC build mobile phone.

The weird thing is, i’ve owned every HTC flagship since the One M7 and the build quality has always been top notch. It seems as if some of Google’s directions or requirements for the Pixel may have compromised HTC’s ability to put build quality first.

You must be the luckiest person in the world or you work for HTC

The m7 to m9 were absolute terrible quality and they sent out a lot of very poor devices.

    Absolutely. The M9 in particular.

Haha, did you know, that ‘Google Pixel’ is manufactured by HTC? 😀 I’m very satisfied with my m10 build quality.
