Several weeks ago we reported on the LG Stylus DAB+ being on sale at Aldi for just $279. Starting this Wednesday the 8th March you can pick one of these up for the same price or you can opt for the Moto G3 3rd Gen for just $249.
The LG Stylus DAB+ was and still is a solid phone and apart from being stuck on Android 6.0, $279 gets the consumer some half-decent specs. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad core processor, a good sized 5.7in 720P display, 16GB of storage that can be expanded with a microSD card, 1.5GB of RAM and a 13MP rear facing and 8MP front facing camera on top of other goodies. While the software is LG variety, this can be easily overlooked for a low price, especially when you consider the upside of a stylus and the DAB+ radio built in.
The Moto G3 3rd Gen has less bells and whistles than the LG but where it excels is it’s software. The simplicity of a basic stock Android experience results in a smooth experience that it seems a non-skinned device can provide. At just $249 this Wednesday (8th March) from Aldi it is most definitely a phone that I would consider purchasing for someone who wants a cheap phone that runs well and feels good in the hand.
Both of these phones come with a full warranty and are part of Aldi’s serious push into the mobile space. The ad for them is accompanied by the different plans you can get when you switch to Aldi Mobile. Some of their plans have some decent data allowances and should be considered when playing off one provider against another. Considering Aldi uses part of Telstra’s 4G and 3G network it may be an attractive proposition to some.
Anyone avail themselves of any decent Aldi deals lately? How does this one stack up in your opinion?
Depending on your needs for a phone, the G3 is better in benchmarks and gaming than the more widely available G4 Play, but the G4 Play is weighs a fair bit less and is almost certainly going to be updated to Nougat soon.
The G3 however is 1 meter water resistant for 30 minutes and can be flashed with Lineage OS though which is already on 7.1.1
The Moto G3 is an excellent phone, I used this as an overseas travel phone, since it is dual sim. However it’s worth mentioning if the variant at aldi is dual sim (it should be) the 2nd sim can only be used with 2G sim cards. That maybe useful in some parts of Asia or Africa but not in Singapore, the US, UK/Europe or Australia where 2G networks are being or have been phased out. If using 1 sim card (1 provider) it doesn’t matter and it’s still an excellent phone. The Moto G4 Plus, with a bigger screen and… Read more »
