Sony will unveil at least two phones at their IFA press conference on August 31st, the Xperia XZ1 which we saw yesterday, and a smaller Compact version.
Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka @onleaks) has released a video render of the XZ1 Compact based, as usual, on CAD models he’s received from sources (likely case makers). Steve has a pretty good track record on this front previously.
The phone render shows Sony will continue to use their usual button placement with what looks to be a fingerprint sensor built into the power button, with volume rocker and of course their signature dedicated camera shutter button. The render shows a headphone jack at the top and USB type C port at the bottom. The back has the camera up in the top left, with flash mounted almost in the centre, like the XZ1 it’s possible the NFC target will be up here as well.
The render show a smaller device, with dimensions of 129.5 x 64.5 x 9.4mm which will fit in a 4.6″ display. The phone will be ‘Compact’ in name, and though the screen will reportedly only be HD resolution not all specs will be downgraded with a Snapdragon 835, 4GB of RAM and a 2,600mAh battery running the show. Launching with Android 7.1.1, Sony is expected to offer an Android O update sometime after Google release the code.
The event will be livestreamed by Sony on August 31st, it will be starting around 9pm AEST so stay tuned.
