The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are now officially on sale, so you might be asking what’s the best way to buy Samsung’s latest and greatest.
The phones start at $1,199 outright locally, so a 24-month contract might be a tempting option if you don’t want to drop over a grand in one fell swoop. To help out, we’ve got every single Aussie S9 and S9+ plan below (for both the 64GB and 256GB models), but first, here are a few that caught our eye.
When it comes to bang-for-buck, Virgin Mobile is the clear winner. $87 per month gets you a 64GB Galaxy S9 with 16GB of data, while $92 per month gets you the 64GB Galaxy S9+. If you just want a good plan with a good amount of data, Virgin is a great choice.
If you’re looking to spend a little less on your Galaxy S9, Woolworths Mobile is a good place to start. Woolworths gives you the option of paying your new phone off over three years, which helps make your monthly bill a little bill smaller.
While three years might seem like a long time to be locked into a contract, leaving early just means you need to pay out the remainder of your phone. Alternatively, if you decide you want more data down the line, Woolworths lets you move up or down in terms of plan size once a year.
$63.30 per month gets you a 64GB Galaxy S9, 5GB of data, unlimited talk and text, and 200 international texts. If you want a 64GB Galaxy S9+, you’ll pay $67.47 per month instead.
Vodafone also lets you pay off your Galaxy S9 off over 36 months, and is a little more flexible than Woolworths Mobile. You can upgrade or downgrade your base plan on a month-to-month basis, and if you want to leave, you can cancel your plan whenever you want – you’ll get need to payout the remainder of your device.
In our opinion, Vodafone’s $50 plan hits the sweet spot.
Telstra and Optus sit on the higher end of town, but you do get a couple of bonuses with your plans.
Telstra’s top-end plans included a year of Foxtel Now. $139 per month gets you a 64GB Galaxy S9 or 64GB Galaxy S9+, a massive 60GB of data, unlimited talk and text, and unlimited international talk and text (to 15 selected countries). This plan also includes a 12-month subscription to three Foxtel Now starter packs, valued at up to $420, 2GB of roaming data per month, and unlimited talk and text while roaming.
On Optus, $105 per month gets a 64GB Galaxy S9, 30GB of data, unlimited talk and text, and 740 international minutes. You also get unlimited talk and text while roaming in “zone one countries”, and 1GB of roaming data per month at no extra cost. Stepping up to the 64GB Galaxy S9+ will take your bill to $110 per month.
Other bonuses include an Optus Sport subscription, and data-free standard definition streaming through Netflix and Stan. And if you sign-up for two Galaxy S9 plans on the same account on the same day, you’ll cheaper of the two for half-price. There’s just one catch to note: the second Galaxy S9 plan can’t be for an existing Optus customer.
