Telstra quietly adds the recently announced Alcatel 1C to its prepaid line up

After Alcatel announced their Alcatel 1 series of phones would be arriving at retail in August, it’s a little surprising to see the Alcatel 1C has appeared on the Telstra website as a pre-paid device – and it’s available now.

The Alcatel 1C is the budget model of the newly announced Alcatel 1 series, but does take advantage of Alcatel’s parents company, TCL, newly developed 18:9 aspect ratio displays. The phone comes in with a fingerprint reader, but does not run Android Go like the Alcatel 1 and Alcatel 1X, instead running Android Nougat.

As stated, it is interesting that the Alcatel 1C has become available prior to its official retail launch in August. Early last month, was forced to withdraw its own branded devices which were made in partnership with ZTE, after it became in trouble with the US Government and US Dept of Defence. Since then it’s prepaid smartphones have been limited to about 3 devices.

Telstra is offering the Alcatel 1C in either Black or Gold colour options.

The Alcatel 1C is available from Telstra for $89 outright, however the device is locked to the Telstra Network in which unlocking fees may apply should you wish to use it on another network.
