It just doesn’t feel like a phone launch without a render appearing from everybody’s favourite man in the know, Evan Blass, but it’s here. Evan has this morning unleashed a render showing the front of both the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.
We’ve seen both these phones so many times in the flesh already, including again this morning, but we always love a good, clean render and here they are:

The render from such an impeccable source, really lays to rest the silly idea that’s been floating around of a third Pixel 3 phone which is the size of a Pixel 3 XL but without the notch. There really is no solid evidence for its existence, but it’s persisted because of a real hate for that admittedly large bucket sized notch. Well, these renders do show the notch is here, or will be in just over two weeks when Google unveils them at the Made By Google event on October 9th (10th here in Australia) in New York.
I just want more ram, notch or not. Seriously considering jumping ship to something with 6 or 8GB. Android P on P2XL is horrible with 4GB
Dylan: nailed it. They’ve given us heaps of time to get used to it, and while there are still plenty of vocal detractors in the comments and tweets, I’d bet a lot of people have been worn down to “well I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it anymore and it’s too good a phone to pass up for that reason alone”.
I am hoping the notch craze will end next year, so I can get back into the Pixel XL phone market in October 2019. The notch is one of the silliest ideas, dreamed up by Essential Phone, and later popularized by Apple.
I think all this intentional, long played out “marketing” from Google is actually working and I’m not as opposed to the notch on the 3XL as I was over a month ago. I think I’m genuinely just starting to get excited that the gen Pixel is around the corner!
At least Google is owning it. Apple just seems happy to hide their notch on all of their promo material.
