Bill Gates once famously said “640K ought to be enough for anybody”. Though that quote refuses to go away, storage issues do not. With higher resolution photos, more music, 4K video recording, and faster downloads to get content to our phones, we need more storage to keep it all. Samsung has just revealed an answer to our ever-growing thirst for storage, announcing mass production of a 1TB embedded Universal Flash Storage (UFS) chip.
It’s been a long time since 8GB was the defacto standard internal storage for a phone. Now, we’re seeing phones with almost that much RAM. Storage has grown from 8GB through 16GB, 32 to 64, and now 128 to 256GB. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 even had 512GB options.
Will we see it soon?
With the step up to 1TB, in a tiny little chip, we could see smartphones featuring 1TB storage very soon. Samsung appears likely to offer a 1TB variant of its high-end Samsung Galaxy S10+ smartphone this month. Today’s announcement virtually confirms it.
Samsung’s press release emphasizes that its new chip will feature in a flagship device:
“Samsung is committed to assuring the most reliable supply chain and adequate production quantities to support the timely launches of upcoming flagship smartphones in accelerating growth of the global mobile market.”
The tiny chip is just 11.5mm by 13mm (so, about the size of the average fingernail). We should see the new chip in action within the next few weeks.
plus watts is a great size for a speaker that is for the Galaxy 10 and eye, face, print pin, pattern would be fantastic and would slow down the average thief..
