It’s the consumer-facing high-end smartphones that attract all the attention, to be sure, but like many companies, Samsung has a much wider range of products, and their rugged gear has been around for a while. Today, though, the company has released the new Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro – a tough-as-nails military-rated smartphone built for the workplace.
A smartphone designed for a range of hard-wearing industries – including retail, manufacturing, healthcare and logistics – the Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro is designed to be used in the real world, not just in your comfortable offices and homes.
With IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, it can withstand drops of 1.5 metres onto hard surfaces without needing a case or additional protection, and it has also been rated to MIL-STD-810G level for reliable protection against extreme altitude, humidity and other environmental conditions. The Galaxy XCover Pro also features convenient pogo-pin charging options, a huge 4,050 mAh battery, and better yet the battery is swappable, so you can just keep going and going for as long as you’ve got batteries to last.
The Galaxy XCover Pro allows users to tailor their experience with two programmable keys to create custom actions with one click. This functionality makes complicated workflows simple letting users open the scanner, turn on the flashlight or launch a CRM app all without swiping through apps, scrolling through menus, or even looking at the screen.
Finally, by removing the physical home button, Samsung has enhanced the elegance and simplicity of the phone design while maintaining its ruggedness. The Galaxy XCover Pro offers a clear, edge-to-edge 6.3-inch FHD+ Infinity Display with an enhanced touchscreen able to work in any condition, including rain or snow. For users in the field, glove mode allows for gloves-on use and the new voice to text message feature provides real-time dictation and messaging for simple, convenient communication.
Key specifications are as follows:
- 159.9 x 76.7 x 9.94mm and 218g
- 6.3-inch FHD display which can be used in the wet or with gloves

Pricing is to be announced, but you’d best believe we’ve approached Samsung to play with one of these phones!
First swappable battery in a long time. Is Samsung actually going to sell it in Australia, as they have chosen not to sell their rugged phones here for years?
