In-display fingerprint technology is one of those double-edged swords; good, because it means phones can do away with chin-mounted front-facing fingerprint sensors, and they’re not needed on the back either. Bad, though, because they’re often a bit slower and less accurate than their dedicated fingerprint scanning cousins.
While ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensors are pretty good, they’re still not as fast as a dedicated hardware sensor .. or, at least, they don’t feel as quick.
However, a hack of sorts is doing the rounds which promises to speed up the fingerprint recognition from the lock screen and, in my quick testing, it does feel somewhat faster, though I’m not exactly sure why. It’s possible the hack is just a placebo and nothing more, but try it yourselves and see – like me, you may well find a bit of an improvement.
Here’s how to give it a try:
- Open the settings, then go to Apps and touch the 3-dot menu button at the top.
- Select the option Show system apps
- Search for com.samsung.android.biometrics.app.settings.
- Select the option and then jump to Optimize battery usage to select All Apps from the drop-down menu.
Once that’s done, follow the second step to disable optimization for the biometrics app:
- Search for com.samsung.android.biometrics.app.settings again, and tap the toggle button to disable the function.
- Reboot the phone to complete. Wait for a while to let all the apps load and then try unlocking the device.
You should find that your phone does unlock just that little bit faster, and that fingerprint recognition seems .. snappier.
What do you think? Does this do anything for your Samsung Galaxy S20 device? We’ve heard it works on other Samsung devices with in-screen fingerprints too, including the Note 10 range.
I just took the prev installed screen protector off and it works really well now, first time every time and fast.
Please Don’t try this guys
I had tried this on my S20 Ulta but nothing happened and it made my overall phone speed slow.
