There’s a continual stream of new entries into the phone market, unfortunately many of them suffer the same affliction: Fragility. If you’re in a work role where you’re at high risk of bumps, bangs and drops to your phone then that’s a problem. Aspera mobile has introduced the R40, a rugged phone that’s IP68 rated making it dust and waterproof to approximately 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. Best of all, at $129.00 it won’t break the bank.

It’s a small, lightweight feature phone — running KaiOS — with a number of useful apps preloaded such as Google Maps, WhatsApp, YouTube, Facebook and Google Assistant. Aspera Mobile MD Allan Robertson commented:

The R40 shifts the game a bit as it’s deliberately designed and pre-loaded as a rugged device for mobile users who do not want or need a full smartphone experience.

Together with our recently released R9 rugged smartphone, retailers can now offer choice of Aspera’s rugged devices at very compelling retail prices. These models continue the Aspera tradition of delivering quality mobiles to Australian consumers.

Other useful features of the R40 include:

  • 4G connectivity and a Wi-Fi hotspot to share your mobile connection.
  • The 2500mAh battery gives the R40 up to 15 day standby and a 40 hour talk time.
  • Expandable storage of up to 32GB via an SD card

It’s clear though from the 2MP rear and 0.3MP front camera, this is a phone aimed at users who need the phone features not “smart” features including the camera. For more information you can take a closer look online at the Aspera website, or check it out in a nearby retail store.
