Qualcomm, the brand behind the infamous Snapdragon processors in many mobile devices, has launched 2 new Snapdragon 7 and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile processors for premium and high-tiers mobile devices.
The company’s newest flagship platform, Snapdragon 8+, has been designed for premium-tier devices and delivers both power and performance enhancements for the ultimate boost across all on-device experiences and allows users to maximize their play all day. Whilst the Snapdragon 7 offers a selection of high-end, in-demand features and technologies and enables them for more people around the world.
The company has also pointed to report findings from Counterpoint Research, IDC1, and Strategy Analytics stating that Qualcomm Technologies is the global leader in premium Android smartphone SoC industry share. While speaking at the launch of the new Snapdragon 7 and Snapdragon 8+ chipsets, Christopher Patrick, senior vice president and general manager, mobile handsets, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc has stated that:
“In the mobile segment, our primary focus is to deliver new, groundbreaking features and technologies to the industry, and for our customers’ flagship devices. We implement these features first in our Snapdragon 8-series and then waterfall them down our mobile roadmap,” and that “The new Snapdragon 8+ and 7 Gen 1 both deliver breakthrough user experiences in their respective tiers.”
The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 will be adopted by leading global OEMs and brands including ASUS ROG, Black Shark, HONOR, iQOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, OSOM, realme, RedMagic, Redmi, vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE with devices with this new platform processor chipset expected to be available in Q3 2022.
The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 will bring with it Amped-up Gameplay which will bring with it a full suite of Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, ultra-smooth responsiveness, colour-rich HDR scenes, and desktop-level capabilities with the chipset up to 10% faster speeds and 30% power reduction to deliver the ultimate gameplay experience.
There will also be Pro-grade Capture capabilities that feature the latest Snapdragon Sight technologies like 8K HDR video recording to take smartphone videography up to the next level.
There is also Unbeatable Intelligence that includes Snapdragon Smart capabilities which, powered by the 7th Gen Qualcomm AI Engine, delivers up to 20% better performance per Watt that will enable ultra-advanced AI to use across the board for intuitive, depth-defying interactions like legendary Leica Leitz bokeh effects.
Finally, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 will bring with it Full-throttle Connectivity which brings with it best-in-class 5G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth with the full suite of Snapdragon Connect features for mobile. The company stated this, combined with the Snapdragon X65 Modem-RF system provides remarkable speed and efficiency enabling users to be able to talk to friends and family for over 5.5 hours longer alongside Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 which enables better and stronger connection over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Furthermore, it also includes Snapdragon Sound with support for CD Lossless audio quality, ultra-low latency for lag-free gaming and robust connectivity.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset processor has been designed to bring a selection of high-end, in-demand features and technologies to more people around the world such as mobile gaming, high-speed connectivity, intelligent entertainment and larger-than-life capture.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset will be adopted by leading global OEMs and brands including HONOR, OPPO, and Xiaomi, with devices with this new chipset processor platform expected to begin shipping in Q2 2022.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 will bring with it Epic Mobile Gaming that features select Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, like Adreno Frame Motion Engine, which can double the framerate to upscale content while maintaining the same power consumption whilst providing more than 20% faster graphics rendering. It will also provide support for an immersive Quad HD+ Display and amplified audio featuring anti-howling for multi-player gaming.
There will also be Larger-than-life Capture which will enable and include Qualcomm‘s Spectra triple ISP that will enable users can shoot simultaneously from three cameras or take photos at an astounding 200MP – a first for the Snapdragon 7 series.
The Snapdragon 7 will also provide Intelligent Entertainment which combines Snapdragon 7’s camera capabilities with its 7th gen Qualcomm AI Engine enabling Deep Learning Face Detect that has been based on 300 facial landmarks and should make for more accurate autofocus, even while wearing a mask and features up to 30% improved AI performance.
In terms of security, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 will include Vault-like Security that includes a dedicated Trust Management Engine and Android Ready SE and prioritising the safety and protection of users’ information.
Lastly, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 series will include High-speed Connectivity featuring 4th gen Snapdragon X62 5G Modem-RF System alongside FastConnect 6900 which delivers superior Wi-Fi and Bluetooth – with Snapdragon Sound allowing for a jitter-free, immersive experience.
