The Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event has happened. As expected, we knew the company would be launching its latest flip-and-fold devices, and Samsung hasn’t disappointed.

Samsung is opening the next chapter of Galaxy AI by leveraging its most versatile and flexible form factor, perfectly designed to enable a range of unique mobile experiences.

Talking at the launch of the new devices, TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile experience Business at Samsung Electronics stated:

“Samsung’s long history of innovation has allowed us to lead in the mobile space, creating the
foldable form factor and ushering in the mobile AI era. Now, we are excited to bring these two
complementary technologies together and unlock new possibilities for users around the world, and our foldables meet the unique needs of every user and now enhanced by the power of Galaxy AI, Samsung is delivering an experience like never before.”

So, what are the Galaxy Z Fold6 and the Galaxy Flip6 offering? Let’s have a look, shall we?

Galaxy Z Fold6

The Galaxy Z Fold6 comes with 2 displays, with the cover or outside display being a 6.3-inch HD+ display (2376 x 968 @ 410ppi) that offers a 120Hz refresh rate whilst the main inside display is a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED Infinity Flex Display (2160 x 1856 @ 374ppi) that also offers a 120hX adaptive refresh rate.

Under the hood, the device is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy with 12GB RAM and storage options ranging from 256GB to 512GB and 1TB onboard storage. However, you won’t be able to expand this via a microSD card, so you will need to ensure you have enough cloud storage should you need and require additional storage.

In terms of cameras, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 comes with multiple cameras. The front cover camera is a 10MP Selfie Camera whilst the inside display comes with a 4MP under screen camera, yes you read that right it’s under the inside foldable display, whilst the rear triple cameras are made up of a 12MP ultra wide camera lens, 50MP wide-angle camera lens and a 10MP telephoto camera lens.

In terms of battery power, the Galaxy Z Fold6 comes with a 4,400mAh (typical) dual battery, Wi-Fi 6E, 4G and 5G connectivity, and Bluetooth version 5.3. The Galaxy Z Fold6 will run Android 14 with One UI 6.1.1 running over the top.

The Galaxy Z Fold6 is now available for pre-order in either Silver Shadow, Pink and Navy colours with pricing starting at $2,749 for the 256GB, $2,949 for the 512GB and $3,499 for the 1TB.

Galaxy Flip6

The Galaxy Flip6 comes with a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED Display (720 x 748 @ 306 PPI) that offers a 60Hz refresh rate as the front cover display whist the inside display comes with a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED Infinity Flex Display (2640 x 1080) that offers a 120Hz fresh rate.

Powering the device under the hood is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy alongside 12GB RAM and either 256GB or 512GB internal storage which cannot be expanded via MicroSD card which means you will need to ensure you have enough cloud storage should you need it.

In terms of cameras, the Galaxy Flip6 comes with a 10MP selfie camera on the inside display, whilst the rear dual camera setup includes a 12MP Ultra-Wide camera lens and a 50MP Wide-angle camera lens.

The Galaxy Flip6 will run Android 13 right out of the box alongside One UI 6.1.1 running over the top. The Flip6 also comes with a 4,000mAh (typical) dual battery, 4G & 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth version 5.3.

The Galaxy Flip6 is available for pre-orders right now in either Silver Shadow, Yellow, Blue and Mint colour options, with prices starting at $1,799 for the 256GB storage and $1,999 for the 512GB storage.

Samsung have stated that the The Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6 also comes with seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security update which for me has to be a record for Samsung and I welcome these additional years of firmware and security updates.
