HMD, or Human Mobile Devices, previously best known for making Nokia branded Android devices, has announced its latest smartphone, the HMD Skyline, a device that has its own Digital Detox mode and is focussed on capturing every memory while still being present in the moment.

Speaking at the launch of the new HMD Skyline, Brenden Folitarik, HMD GM of Australia and Oceania, stated:;

“The HMD Skyline empowers the humans behind the phone, with an impressive triple camera to capture memories, a unique digital detox mode to encourage people to live in the moment and fix-it-yourself repairability that has never been easier. It’s all about creating a fashionable way to have a healthy relationship with your smartphone.”

Lars Silberbauer, Global CMO of Human Mobile Devices stated;

“At Human Mobile Devices we start by really thinking about and working out what consumers need. This phone is going to be a game-changer. Gen Z’s want beautiful phones that take beautiful pictures. We’re giving them that. They want to take a detox every once in a while and step away from the incessant digital flow. We’re giving them that. HMD Skyline delivers everything they want and need and it looks absolutely beautiful.”

The HMD Skyline comes with a 6.55-inch P-OLED Display (1080 x 2400 @ 402ppi) which offers 144Hz refresh rate and is powered by an Octa-core Qualcomm SM7435-AB Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset, that will either offer 8GB ram or 12GB with either 128GB or 256GB onboard storage and good news it would seem there is potential to further expand this via MicroSD card.

In terms of Cameras, the HMD Skyline will come with a rear triple camera setup made up of a 108MP wide lens, 50MP telephoto lens and a 13MP ultrawide lens with the selfie camera being a 50MP lens.

Talking about the cameras, HMD have stated that the 108MP Hybrid OIS triple rear camera is equally impressive. Portrait mode allows for stunning 50mm shots in bokeh effect and crisp close-ups can be achieved with the x4 zoom function. Stunning scenery and group shots can be captured using the 0.5 ultra-wide mode and there’s AI Capture Fusion too to add maximum detail to zoom images.

To verify this, HMD partnered up with Rosanna Elettra to capture gorgeous launch images which positioned the HMD Skyline as the star of the show, the stunning photos were shot and edited entirely on the HMD Skyline.

Celebrity photographer Rosanna Electtra took the HMD Skyline for a test drive, she stated:

“I’ve had the joy of capturing acclaimed artists like Rihanna, Central Cee, Aitch and Cara Delevingne. The HMD Skyline is Gen Z’s dream device so I wanted to show the phone in its natural habitat, in scenes dripping with Gen Z culture. . I’m used to shooting celebrities, but I loved turning the camera on Human Mobile Device’s latest launch and taking its super impressive camera for a test drive. The shots – all taken on the phone – are super cool, stylish and have main character energy – just like Skyline.”

The HMD Skyline comes with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6e, dual-band, Bluetooth 5.2, A2DP, LE, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, 4600 mAh battery that can support 33W wired, 15W wireless (magnetic), 5W reverse wireless charging, USB-C.

Talking about the device itself, HMD have very much made repairability a big priority when it comes to its devices, with the company partnering with iFixit to have kits and parts available for users to be able to replace either bent charging ports, back overs, displays without the need to take the m to a repair shop.

The digital Detox part of the device, though noted that it won’t be available until late September via a software update, will allow users to set a screen timeout to be able to get away and make time for real world events instead of always relying on your smartphone to experience things.

The HMD skyline will comes in three various colours – Neon Pink, Topaz Blue and Twisted Black and will be available from August 28 through retail partners B Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Officeworks (online only), Amazon (online only) and Big W (online only) for $899.
