In the wake of the explosion at the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England, Australian carrier Optus has begun offering free standard calls to the UK for customers beginning tomorrow and running through until the 28th of May
From midnight tonight, Optus customers on both fixed line post-paid plans will be able to make standard calls – this includes calls to both landlines and mobiles – to the UK for free. Pre-paid customers aren’t being left out either, from 7am tomorrow morning, they too will be able to make calls to landline and mobile numbers in the UK until midnight on the 28th of May for free.
There is of course a large number of people wanting to call the UK, specifically the Manchester area at the moment and Optus has advised that this may impact customers ability to connect, advising you may ‘experience busy tones, recorded voice announcements or the calls might go straight to voicemail during busy periods’.
At this stage Telstra and Vodafone have not announced any offerings for their customers to contact the UK. We’ve reached out to find out if there will be any deals forthcoming and will update if there are any developments.
