If you’re like me and you’re dying to get your hands on Samsung’s latest handheld offering, the Galaxy S II, you’re not going to be happy to know that our friends at MobiCity have confirmed that Samsung have pushed back the release date to May 1st. In other terrifying news, MobiCity have heard that the 32GB variant of the SGSII may have been cancelled due to the high costs of production over a low profit margin. In other words, Samsung haven’t at all thought about competing against anyone, instead just trying to make another high-priced product as if they’re the only ones on the market (sound familiar?).

Has this news compelled you to jump on the Atrix bandwagon? Let us know in the comments below.

If there will be no new releases for Samsung G S2 16/32GB another great option, wait for Samsung G S4 price drops till you can afford it…

Jonathan

I’m going to go with the sgs2 upgrade. I do love the idea of being able to doc the Atrix to a screen/keyboard so no need for multiple devices. I’d prefer it to be slotted/docked into a 10″ tablet screen with the option of adding a keyboard. best of all worlds 🙂 But that’s maybe a year away I reckon.

Ben

Even with 16gb, if I can put a micro sd memory card in it, I’d jump at the SGS II

Flame

Boo this disappoints me. I’m off my contract now and was really looking forward to getting this phone soon!

Buzz Moody

Looks like we’re both going to have to wait it out until May 🙁

MrSimtang

Hmm how much would the 32gb version have cost? Surely it would have only been $200 more tops? I would have gladly paid that 🙂 Oh well, looks like I’ll have to settle with 16gb, which is plenty enough. I’ll be selling my SGS and picking up this badboy when it’s out in May. It’s actually a shame that only one other phone compares to the SGSII in specs (the Atrix is the only one that I know of), but the SGSII looks a whole lot sexier and I’m sure has a prettier screen. I’ve only had my SGS since… Read more »

Would you not consider the LG Optmus 2X in the same arena as the SGSII and Atrix?

MrSimtang

Not for me. For my next phone I’m after dual core + 1gb ram. LG 2X has 512 ram, which I already have on my current SGS.

I’d rather go for a phone with better specs (ie, Atrix/SGSII).

Cameron

I’m not convinced yet that the Atrix is better then the 2X. Even though it has more RAM it’s also got a higher resolution screen, which end up needing more grunt to run. And the SGSII, well yeah, that doesn’t really exist yet does it?

MrSimtang

Yeah, but the Atrix has a huge 1930mAh battery. The Optimus 2X has a 1500mAh battery.

Matt Creasey

The Atrix is nice, it was my initial choice before the SGS2 was announced. SGS2 has more sensors, and thus gadget power

I guess the main issues with Atrix is that the screen isn’t SAMOLED+, MotoBlur isn’t anything to be excited about (in my opinion it goes -> Stock>Sense>TouchWiz>Motoblur) and the restrictions (or more complexity) with custom ROMs is definitely an issue with Atrix. Moreover, the general consensus on Atrix is that it’s average at best. Most reviewers say that.

Matt Creasey

Now I am sad, pre-order went through early today.

Cameron

Wow LG Optimus 2x not available from carries and now the SGS 2 delayed until may, will we ever see these dual core phones?

Buzz Moody

Atrix is go at MobiCity

Cameron

Hrmmm. For some reason that one just isn’t grabbing me. I’m not sure what it is about it, maybe I had a bad initial impression and I’ve been concentrating on all the negatives about it since then. It just doesn’t seem as sexy and the 2x or SGS2

Buzz Moody

I agree. The SGSII looks the sexiest so far, in my opinion.

Ditto. SII looks the most complete of the super phones released this year. Wait till May? No problems. Galaxy S running great on with custom ROM (generate your own: http://romkitchen.org) and speedmod kernel with all tweaks and lagfix enabled. Phone flies. But still. I want SII. 😀

Dan

Yes or wait for the hd2!

That hasn’t even been announced yet. It could be forever away. I personally dislike all iOS devices for many reasons (no Android fanboy mentality) but one thing I like about Apple is their schedule. They announce it today and product releases in 10 days and less than a month in most countries with the price already given. Wish Samsung/Motorola/HTC/LG can do this. Announce the product with a definite release date and confirmed price. It’s been a month since S2 was announced. Now delayed. No definite pricing. Not sure if 32GB model will be released at all. Not sure if Australia… Read more »
