Update: Competition now closed.
This could be your chance to be one of the first people in the country to steer Liverpool to the Champions League final while playing the Sony Ericsson Xperia™ PLAY .
Everyone else counting down the six minutes until the train arrives? You could finally master Expert Mode on Guitar Hero.
Sony Ericsson is on the hunt for ten social-media savvy Aussies to help it celebrate the launch of the Sony Ericsson Xperia™ PLAY on The Optus Open Network. Hit the break to get all the juicy details.
You’ll be asked to join in and review the pioneering new Android smartphone: the Sony Ericsson Xperia™ PLAY. This isn’t just a try before you buy experience, you’ll be competing against the other nine PLAYers in the competition for a chance to win the handset for yourself.
You’ll need to share your views on the Xperia™ PLAY by creating entertaining content that attracts comments, clicks, shares and retweets.
The PLAY, due to hit stores by June, is the world’s first PlayStation certified smartphone. Using Androids latest and greatest: Gingerbread 2.3, and coupled with a 1 Ghz processor, the PLAY is nothing short of a hand held gaming console, with all the perks of being a smartphone at the same time.
Sony Ericsson have collaborated with EA (The Sims, FIFA), Gameloft (Assassins Creed) and GLU (Guitar Hero) amongst others. This means you’ll have access to these popular games, plus many more available on the Android market.
This is your chance to compete against the other PLAYers to see who comes out on top.
The competition features much more than just the high-score game-off between competitors though. That means you don’t even need to be an avid gamer to join in. Sony Ericsson are looking for the most entertaining responses, reviews and experiences of the Xperia™ PLAY that you can share on within social media, including Facebook, Twitter and blogs.
The competition will utilise the Sony Ericsson Xperia™ PLAY’s specific gaming functions for head-to-head game battles. Sony Ericsson will challenge you to put the smartphone through its paces on the Optus Network. You’ll have to be at your imaginative best while using the PLAY’s camera, and feel comfortable interacting with the people most interested in your PLAY. Think you’re up for it?
The closing date for entries is Sunday 10th April 2011, so click here now and take your chance to become a Sony Ericsson PLAYer.

Graphics performance of the 1GHz Snapdragon with Adreno 205 GPU is 35% slower than last year’s Galaxy S lineup and 50% slower than upcoming Tagra2 devices (http://goo.gl/MxhZ8). Wonder how it is going to hold up as a gaming device with such mediocre graphics.
Got some of the numbers mixed up, its l around 20% slower than Galaxy S series and more than 40% slower than upcoming dial core solutions.
I don’t see why under 18’s aren’t allowed to sign up. We’re the ones with the most social media and probably the target audience too.
If I’m not allowed to sign up, then no other <18yo is allowed to either.
On a more serious matter, it's a legal thing, that us (Ausdroid) have no control over as we're not a part of the comp.
oh, sweet, im getting a review unti anyway, it seems i got accepted! win for meeeee

Hey Benjamin – Sorry about that – do you have an alternative email that you can use? I suggest you do that and then add your telephone number and select to be contacted by phone. The algorithm is set up by the company that provides the service so is beyond our control but we will pass your feedback on to them.
lol i just realised all the comments here are from people who can’t get the sign up process to work properly… WTF is going on over there!!?? Raises some serious questions, maybe “Sonying” something could become a verb to describe slightly screwing up something that should be relatively simple… sigh… what happened
Wondering what I did wrong, maybe cause i don’t have myspace!! hahahaha Myspace is closing it’s doors… cmon Sony… wtF is going on… anyways SE don’t want my help – so meh to them… they keep making small vital steps in the wrong direction with every potential thing they could get right… (think of their clunky skinning and lack of updates…)
Anyways i really wanted to see how SE was doing with this… whatever…
“Sorry, it appears you’ve selected an option that makes you ineligible for the Sony Ericsson PLAYers competition. Please use your browser’s back button if you wish to continue.”
What did I do wrong?
Hi Benedict – I can see you have now completed an entry. All cool?
Oh, so you’ve already received it? Cools.
I also have problems with the survey – where it asks for details about my blog it won’t accept the value I enter into it (which is a perfectly value URL http://www.fourtheye.net)…
We don’t know why you couldn’t enter your blog address – you could try leaving off the http://.
victorians cant apply, its asks for your state and victoria is missing 🙁
Same here. Would love to apply but VIC isn’t showing.
The competition is open to Victorians! We’ve fixed this up. Please re-enter if you didn’t submit already.
