If you’re an owner of a HTC Desire Z from Vodafone, you can now update your device from Android 2.2 to 2.3 via an over the air (FOTA) update. Your device will periodically search for the update and then ask if you’d like to download (do it over Wi-Fi!) and install the 104MB update. If you’re not a fan of waiting around for the update, head to the settings menu of your Desire Z, hit About phone, then hit search for updates; the phone should then download the update.
To answer the question a lot of people ask us when updating: no, you will not lose any of your songs, photos or whatever from your MicroSD Card, but we suggest backing up your SMS Messages just to be on the safe side. You can do this by using an application like MyBackup. Good luck and let us know how you go in the comments!
Hey guys, I have an unlocked device from the legends at MobiCity I was wondering if I could gain the update somehow? For some reason it says im up to date, but I am still on 2.2
Thanks!
wow! exciting news! can’t wait to download it when I get home….
Is there any way of getting Gingerbread for unlocked Desire Z’s? I forced a check on my phone (and I’m with Optus) that it isn’t available yet.
you should have it when u checked is it unbranded or have branding
Unbranded and I got the Desire Z a year ago now.
hhhmmm should of found the update if its unbranded not sure whats going on try everyday and after a week if nothing call htc and ask whats going on
Where did you get your phone from? If you got it from the UK like me then the update hasn’t been rolled out for UK Desire Z yet.
I’m not sure where it was imported from, but I bought it secondhand from a guy who never used it who bought it from SmoothMobiles.com.au. I’ve also contacted HTC via Twitter and they asked me where I got my phone from. Just waiting for a reply from them!
i sent link and i dont get a mention 🙁
