Sony Australia is running a “Summertainment” promotion, and is offering members of its Sony X program a deal-a-day for the next 12 days.
For the uninitiated, Sony X is Sony Australia’s local fan community group. In exchange for your opinions and information, Sony gives some members of the community early or discounted access to some of its products. It’s an increasingly common marketing initiative from brands like Sony and can give them valuable insight into market demands and the opinions of some of their most loyal customers. Samsung also runs Mob!lers, a program which notably backfired on them back in August at IFA.
The deals available in this 12-day promotion include:
Dec 1: Xperia Go smartphone
Dec 2: Cyber-shot TX20 camera
Dec 3: Sony NEX5R camera
Dec 4: Action Cam
Dec 5: Ipod dock
Dec 6: ZX600 headphones
Dec 7: VAIO Duo 11 and Windows 8 range
Dec 8: Sony Reader
Dec 9: Xperia Tablet
Dec 10: BRAVIA HX750 (46″)
Dec 11: Home theatre system
Dec 12: Internet Player with Google TV
Prices are announced daily at 10am. Today Sony is offering its Sony X members an Xperia Go “Billabong Edition” handset for $265, with free delivery. We reviewed the Go and found the water- and dust-proof device is good for someone with an active lifestyle who doesn’t want to sacrifice style or functionality. At this price it’s also nearing impulse-buy territory.
It’s worth noting that while the Sony X price for the Xperia Go is a decent discount from the usual RRP of $379, there are many cheaper options for the device available with a bit of a search. These devices are likely to be grey imports though, so you should check about local warranty support before you buy, especially with a phone designed with water and dust resistance in mind.
If you’re not a Sony X member, you can enter your details into the signup form, but this isn’t a guarantee that you’ll be accepted – I signed up a little while ago, but only received an invitation to join this week. It may be a bit late to sign up now and expect to be eligible for the above deals, but you never know when the next offer will come.
We’ll let you know when other Android deals come up in the sale.
Is the Go recommended for rural coverage?
