Asus Australia has announced plans for the Asus MeMO pad a 7″ Android tablet that looks set to take on another tablet that they produce – the Nexus 7. MeMO stands for “My Mobile. My Moment” and i spronounced “meemo” Asus are aggressively pricing the MeMO pad at $199 as well as giving customers a choice of three colours – Sugar White, Titanium Grey and Cherry Pink the MeMO Pad also features a non-slip diamond-patterned back, which is reminiscent of the Nexus 7.
The MeMO pad is definitely a tablet to watch with some fairly decent specs including the microSD Card slot for those desperate to expand memory on their tablet :
- 7″ 1024×600 LED backlit Display with 350 NIT brightness
- 1GHz VIA WM8950 CPU and a Mali-400 GPU
- 1GB RAM
- 8GB or 16GB storage with microSD card slot (up to 32GB) + 5GB Asus Webs Storage
- ASUS SonicMaster audio and MaxxAudio
- 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi
- Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
- 196.2×119.2×11.2mm @ 370grams
Whilst not fully stock the MeMO pad comes installed with a range of Asus developed apps such as SuperNote Lite, BuddyBuzz, ASUS WebStorage, ASUS Studio and WebStorage Office. These software additions have not stood in the way of Asus delivering timely updates to the Android OS on their Transformer Series, I do hope this trend will continue with the MeMO Pad.
The MeMO Pad will be available from Asus distributors and retailers such as JB HiFi, Dick Smith Electronics, Bing Lee & Leading Edge from early March for $199. This tablet might be well worth checking out if you are in the market for something in the 7″ form factor.
picked up the ASUS MeMO Pad in Malaysia in Feb 2013, it is good, the only thing I find is if you got photo’s or music to put on have trouble adding them in, someone might know how to do it.
I’ll take timely OS updates over mere price thanks. Pass me the Nexus..
Looks like there are a few good value 7″ tablets coming into the market. This and the HP Slate look to be decent quality and good value. One would assume that more manufacturers will begin to compete in this price bracket…
