Xiaomi Mi-3

Once again Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is throwing down the gauntlet to the major manufacturers – this time with the Mi-3, the follow on from it’s successful and also well spec’d Mi-2. The Mi-3 is not yet official — we understand that Xiaomi is waiting for Google’s I/O event which should see the announcement of Android Key Lime Pie, the Android version the Mi-3 is supposedly launching with.

Taking a few design cues from HTC’s new flagship handset the HTC One the Mi-3 boasts an impressive 5″ 1080p FHD screen running under a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 clocking in at 2.4GHz. Also on board is a 13MP camera and a huge 3000mAh battery. Pricing is also yet to be announced and we would assume that will come with the official announcement of the handset from Xiaomi, however I would be assuming a price of around $300 USD, which is also a killer feature if proved correct.

This also comes only weeks after we brought you the story of the UMI X2, another 5″ 1080P handset out of China, along with the Oppo Find 5.

If this is anything to go by, the 5″ race for powerhouses under $500 is well under way.

As A Chinese Company with heavy Internet elements, do you think they have acquired a nightly build of KLP by dodgy means? It’d help them be KLP ready quickly.

WHY WOULD YOU ASSUME $300? THATS WAY TOO LOW, IF IT WAS GOOGLE SUBSIDIZED AND A NEXUS 5, MAYBE, EVEN THEN, YOUR LOOKING AT OVER $500 FOR THIS IN MY OPINION

Has anything else with a Snapdragon 800 even been announced?
If they can launch this under $500, that would be NUTS.

I’m sure that by the time that reviews are out, all units would be sold anyway.

To me it looks like they’ve just thrown in every top end spec they can think of. KLP? Sure. No idea how it will go with our choice of hardware, but let’s stick it on the list.

If this is under 500 AUD, looks like this could be well my new phone. Of course, I’ll wait for some kind of review. Awesome specs don’t always mean a solid, reliable phone.

Good luck to anyone who wanst to pick up one of these, they sell out faster than Nexus 4 did on launch day >.>

    crazy specs for a phone

2.3ghz is insane! I think my desktop is at about 3.2.

Clock speeds are not a reliable indicator of performance when comparing processors with different architectures. This is because while a specific processor may perform more instructions per second, it may need to perform more instructions to achieve the same result as another.

It’s still a Snapdragon 800. Theoretically an insane beast of a chip.
