Samsung have continued to push their dominance of the Android smartphone market by announcing that they are now taking registrations for the Samsung Developers Conference. It’s Samsung’s first developers conference, the kind of event where traditionally other parties, like Apple and Google, have released new hardware products and services. The expectation is that Samsung will do exactly this, with new SDKs and features as well as some developers workshops for best practice on web app builds.

The schedule for the conference is a huge undertaking for the manufacturing giant with 15 specific sessions on Mobile Development, 5 on enterprise and 4 on their Smart TV range. There’s a massive amount of interest in the conference from developers and tech enthusiasts alike. Check out some of the highlights:

  • First-look at new Samsung SDKs and tools including S Pen and new features
  • Deep dive into Samsung Service Platform and services APIs including ChatON, Group Play, Samsung AdHub, Context Aware and much more
  • Best practices for developing Smart TV application in multi-screen environments spanning, mobile, tablet and TV
  • Cross-platform development case including HTML5, Web app and more
  • Special sessions for B2B developers which cover the Samsung mobile partnership program, building certified applications, KNOX, Enterprise SDK, and more
  • Development opportunities in emerging categories such as gaming and much more

While as a hardware manufacturer it makes great business sense for Samsung to be running their own conference, the strong focus on mobile development and their own Samsung Marketplace appears to be a clear message to Google that they’re looking to rely less on Google and the Android platform.

Is this an effort by Samsung to distance from Google and Android? Do you think it will be successful? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below
