The latest rumours for upcoming Sony devices point to a new phone – codenamed Sirius – and a tablet – codenamed Castor – to be launched at Mobile World Congress next month and an XDA Member – iRimas – appears to have gotten their hands on an as yet unreleased Sony handset with the model # : D6503 which could possibly be the Sirius.
Specs rumoured for the Sirius include a 5.2″ screen with a Qualcomm based MSM8974AB SoC – a variant of the Snapdragon 800 with higher clock speeds, iRimas also confirms a 20.7MP Camera on the model he has in his possession.
From the looks of the device in the pictures it’s following the similar design arc that was begun on the Xperia Z and followed on in the Z1, the sides and chasis of the device appear to again be made of metal – most likely aluminium – and the back of the unit is made of glass. Although there are some changes though, with iRimas advising that the ‘the speaker is on the top where you can see the red light’. He does like the screen too saying ‘Screen is much better then z1’. :
With a micro USB port and SIM card tray on the left as well as what appears to be a hole for a lanyard at the bottom of the left hand side that exits on the bottom of the phone. The Volume Rocker, power button and dedicated Camera shutter button are on the right as well as what could possibly be a cover over a microSD card slot.
The phone is running Android 4.3 and appears to be a bit buggy at the moment, with iRimas advising that the software crashes when trying to take screenshots. He has included some pictures of the boot screen, Quick Settings and Lock Screen(which shows the Camera shortcut in the top right).
Finally, at least on the prototype he has in his possession, the Bootloader is not unlocked.
It’s only a little over a month till the start of Mobile World Congress, which runs from the 24th till the 27th of February over in Barcelona, Spain. Sony hasn’t yet announced an event for MWC but we’ll hopefully here more on this in the leadup to the event.
Does this look like a phone you’d go for?
the bezels now look like the once xperia z has (smaller than Z1 but still bigger)
Hope they reduce the weight and thickness to match xperia z
