It’s been a long time coming, but Toshiba’s first foray into the Chromebook market has finally arrived at retailers in Australia with JB Hifi first of the mark. The Chromebook was first seen in public by Dan Goodes who was kind enough to tip us off on Google+.

Dan saw the Toshiba Chromebook at the JB Hi-Fi on Elizabeth St in Melbourne. While the Toshiba Chromebook hasn’t made it onto the JB Hifi Website, the staff at the two JB Hifi stores in Canberra I spoke to, both confirmed that while they aren’t on display yet, they do have stock – listed at $398, just pipping the $399RRP.

The Toshiba Chromebook CB30(PLM01A-00200C) is a pretty hard to get device by all indications, with the Where To Buy link on the MyToshiba website simply telling potential customers ‘We recommend contacting the outlet to confirm product availability’. A pretty big let down for Toshiba fans wanting to track down a ChromeOS version of their favourite laptop brand.

We’ve asked Toshiba for clarification on availability and have also requested a review unit, which we hope will be arriving soon.

Have you seen the Toshiba Chromebook? Was it at JB Hifi? What did you think of it?

Thanks: Dan Goodes.

Should probably list the specs of said device and why the device might be interesting in the article.

I used the mytoshiba website and used my current location. Plenty of locations came back for Victoria.

Am looking forward to trying the Toshiba. It looks a bit more conservative and stylish than the HP14 or C720, and I’m not interested in the ARM models.
Unless Samsumg can unleash the rumoured replacement for its 3-series with a higher resolution screen, this will likely be my next purchase.

There’s nothing stylish about the C720, that’s for sure. It’s functional but it looks like a $300 laptop.
