Samsung is reportedly planning to include fingerprint sensors in new versions of its tablets, including a new tablet in the Galaxy Tab range, dubbed the Galaxy Tab S.
Samsung fan-site SamMobile is reporting that the Tab S will include a 2,560 x 1,600 WQXGA display, but unlike existing tablets with these displays which are LCDs, this new Tab S will feature an AMOLED display instead. This should lead to deeper blacks, brighter and more vibrant colours, and a better viewing experience over all.
As with the Galaxy S 5, the fingerprint scanner is rumoured to be embedded in the tablet’s home button. It appears that it’s not just the location that will be shared; Samsung is reportedly using the same software/hardware combination to power the sensor, and as we saw with the S 5, this isn’t a winning combination.
Of course, when you can get the fingerprint sensor working, you’ll be able to use it to unlock your device, authorise payments using PayPal, and access a private folder on the device.
The Tab S will come in 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch variants, but we don’t know when, or how much they’ll cost. Stay tuned…
