A cheaper, plastic HTC One M8? That’s the story of the HTC One Ace, which is running the rounds at the moment as the next big thing to come out of HTC. The HTC One M8, has a lovely design, but with a premium aluminium unibody, the price does tend to start climbing so the rumoured announcement of a cheaper and slightly less premium model appeals to a lot of people.
Chinese site ifanr has come through with the latest leak and render of the phone, which they say will be announced on the 3rd of June. Specs of the phone have also been released on the site, and they’re very similar to the HTC One M8 :
- 2.5GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 801 processor (MSM8974AC)
- 5″ 1080P Super LCD 3 display
- 2GB RAM
- 16/32GB on-board storage with Micro SD card (up to 128 GB)
- 13MP Rear Camera with 5MP Front-Facing camera
- Android 4.4 with Sense 6.0
- 2600mAh Lithium Battery
The notable exception is of course that 13MP camera which replaces the Ultra-Pixel Duo Camera from the M8. Pricing wise the more traditional camera sensor will bring the price down, and probably ease concerns over sourcing of parts, which led to issues with the M7 last year.
ifanr also speculate that the One Ace would get DotView case compatibility, which would include the Motion Launch gesture sensing from the higher end M8. Also included will apparently be the BoomSound speakers which HTC prides themselves on and gives a fantastic sound if you’re inclined to blast those around you with your music.
Finally, the pricing is said to be around the 3,000Yuan mark, approximately AUD$520. But the big question is whether this model will launch outside of China, which is where most of the leaks for this model are coming from. We’ll soon find out, June 3rd is just next week so we’ll find out shortly.
