LG announces the G3 UX to become standard on low-mid range smartphones and tablets

LG is quite proud of their latest iteration of the UX for their G3, it’s a matured skin which has really come a long way from their quite outlandish initial offerings. LG has today announced that they will begin standardising some of the proprietary features from the G3 into their low-mid range smartphones and tablets which will launch later this year.

There’s a lot to like about the UX on the G3, and LG has been moving features from their high-end G series phones to lower end models since the Optimus G. Features like Knock Code have made their way to the low-end L Series devices and now features from the G series will too. LG is looking to move software features such as Touch & Shoot from the camera app, which allows users to touch anywhere on the display to focus and take a shot in one touch. Also from the camera app is ‘Gesture shot’ which allows for a clench fist gesture to be used to start a three-second timer before taking a selfie – both these featues will come alongside the Clean View look which shows only the viewfinder view, with no icons or settings blocking the shot.

Also making the transition to lower end models is their Smart Keyboard. Smart Keyboard offers many improvements to the traditional keyboard, with reduced error input, intuitive prediction and also customisation, including the ability to change the height of the keyboard and add frequently used symbols. You can even use the space bar to reposition the cursor by sliding back and forth with a finger.

Standardising these features across our entry- and mid-tier mobile products is just a natural extension of our desire to make every LG device feel premium and unique.

LG has been kicking goals with their hardware design over the last two years, they’ve now started to mature and refine their software features. This has been recognised at an industry level with the Red Dot Communication Design Award judges, this year awarding the LG G3 with three “Best of the Best” awards for its intuitive UX features.

There’s no hints yet as to what hardware we’ll see these features on, but it should be interesting.
