Toshiba has made tentative steps into the ChromeOS market, with the CB30 range of Chromebooks. In Australia we saw the Toshiba Chromebook CB35 and today at IFA, Toshiba has announced the successor, the Toshiba Chromebook 2 with a pretty decent spec bump to the original.
The new Chromebook 2 will actually come in two hardware versions, with different resolution screens. Both models will use the 13.3″ sized screen of the original Chromebook, but come with different hardware configurations. The lower end model will offer a 1366×768 resolution and be powered by a dual-core Celeron N2840 CPU with 2GB of RAM. The higher end model will offer a FUllHD 1920×1080 resolution display, and be powered by a 2.16GHz Celeron N2840 processor and 4GB RAM.
Both models will contain Wifi (802.11AC is on offer), as well as Bluetooth 4.0, HDMI out as well as 1x USB 3.0 and 1x USB 2.0 USB port. The Chromebook 2 will contain a 16GB SSD as has been the norm for most Chromebooks, but as usual there is an SD Card reader included to add a bit more space.
Pricing and availability for the Toshiba Chromebook 2 has been announced for the US, where it will launch on the 5th of October in Charcol, Aqua and Rose. The lower end model will retail for US$249, while the higher end model will sell for US$329. I need to replace my laptop soon and the HD model could be an ideal replacement. Just going to wait for the reviews.
