Qualcomm is at the top of their game, their processors power the current flagship phones, as well as powering the lower end of the market, all the way down to the Snapdragon 200. As a followup, Qualcomm has decided to include LTE on-chip as part of the follow-up to their Snapdragon 200 processor, introducing the Snapdragon 210, with LTE.
While LTE is great, not all markets have it so Qualcomm has also announced a 3G-only version called the Snapdragon 208. It appears to have all the same specs, but with no LTE radio. The Snapdragon 208 and 210 include Multi-Mode 3G, but the Snapdragon 210 gets dual-mode LTE with support for up to Cat 4 LTE at 150 Mbps download speeds, and it also supports 2×10 MHz Carrier Aggregation.
The Snapdragon 210 is manufactured using the 28nm process, as opposed to the 45nm process of the Snapdragon 200, so you can expect some power and heat dissipation improvements. But it’s not going to set the world aflame with speed records, with a decidedly small 1.1GHz clock speed on four Cortex A7 cores. The Snapdragon 210, also includes an Adreno 304 GPU with support for 720P displays. Connectivity wise you’ll find Bluetooth 4.1 and Wifi 802.11n (Single band 2.4GHz) and some decent optical support with 8MP camera support built-in, and options for 1080P video record/playback.
Qualcomm advised that the Snapdragon 208 and Snapdragon 210, will be available in devices in the first half of 2015.
