The announcement today of the Verizon only Motorola Droid Turbo, had many Ausdroid readers dropping us a line in a variety of ways asking about an international release. Unfortunately with Droid branding, that phone is only ever going to be headed to Verizon, but it looks like Motorola may be about to announce an international version – at least in Brazil.

According to tecnoblog.net, they’ve received an invite to an event scheduled for November 5th. The invite which doesn’t name any phones specifically, but does feature the rear of a phone which has the same ballistic nylon rear as the newly announced Droid Turbo.
Moto Maxx invite

Motorola Maxx has been thrown in the ring as a possible name for the phone, which in theory follows on from the Razr Maxx and Razr Maxx HD phones from a couple of years back which both featured massive batteries. The Droid Turbo too contains some pretty great specs, which include :

  • 5.2″ QHD (2560×1440) resolution SuperAMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 3
  • 2.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor
  • 3GB RAM
  • 32/64GB storage options
  • 21MP Rear Camera with Dual-LED Flash and 2MP Front Facing Camera
  • Dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, NFC
  • Android OS, v4.4.2 (KitKat), planned upgrade to v5.0 (Lollipop)
  • 143.5×73.3×7.8mm @ 169grams
  • 3900 mAh Li-Po battery

The international version should have more compatible 3G/LTE bands than the Droid Turbo, which is currently only really suitable for the Verizon network in the US. Hopefully too the international version will do away with the capacitive buttons that Verizon seems to have included on the Droid Turbo.

Whether we see it here in Australia is also another issue, with the Motorola Razr Maxx and Maxx HD never making their way to our shores. Still, there’s always the import route for those out there who are disillusioned with the size of the Nexus 6.

Are you interested in an international variant of the Droid Turbo?

The Motorola DROID TURBO Android Smartphone is a great phone. It has almost everything that I could want in a smartphone including a fast processor, great display, great camera, active display, long battery life and Qi wireless charging.

Angel

Does anyone know how much it would be outright and if it will be available in Australia for sure?

Daniel Tyson

Not yet. We’ll be on this as soon as any announcements are made.

It’s a little unlikely though, we’re a very small market compared to the US and we’ll be pretty well served (from Motorola’s perspective) my the Moto X, G and E.

To anyone complaining about the size… My Note 3 fits into every pocket in my suit/trousers, jeans, shorts…. N6 od Only 8mm taller and 4mm wider. I don’t see any issues with the size.

Droid2OzNOWWW

that’s ok if you like having a phone next your bits and get cancer.. most guys myself included never do this. besides something that big doesn’t fit in jean pockets and would bend the phone out of shape. phones in pockets looks dickier than wearing a bumbag which is the only way a man can have one of these phablets. the phablet makers clearly will lose hetro male buyers, ive discussed this with many mates and noway they would get a phablet, but we don’t live in newtown I suppose.

Where do you put your phone when your not using it?
Phone holster?

TIL: I’m not a hetro male because I like big phones.

Droid2OzNOWWW

lol you gotta be kidding..do men have to look like Dirty Harry now to have a phone? That thing is ridiculous may as well buy a kardasian bag and be done with it

Daniel Tyson

Want!!!

I’d like like to see your theory regarding cancer threats with backed with solid research evidence. If people get cancer from mobile phones (especially by sticking it against their head during a call) why has it been allowed for sale to the public at all let alone passing radiation tests.

Droid2OzNOWWW

Like all things its a matter of ‘watch this space’ when it comes to cancers and the like.. It takes years before they come out and say/admit that bla bla gives one cancer as to not stir mass hysteria..but many people have died of breast cancer ‘mysteriously’ (males mostly) from in their extremely strong opinions v drs admission..to having their phones in top pocket (story of a farmer who put it there while driving tractor for years is just one story that comes to mind) ..point is WHEN it is ‘proven medically’ will the same people who have been putting… Read more »

I’ll be getting a Nexus 6 for the screen and the Google UX. The camera and battery are already great, but the Droid Turbo makes me wish they were even better!

Droid2OzNOWWW

I was all set to go with the nexus 6 till I saw how big it is.. noway a guy can carry a phone that size without a girlbag.. so the droid is better and perfect size.. I want to know for sure if its coming to Australia or not I need a phone asap. sick of looking for a good phone with all the specs likethis one.. are the prices right on this..200 bucks? seriously it has to be more than that?

pyrosrock

$200 upfront on a contract probs 24 months, itl be ~700-800 outright i susspect

Droid2OzNOWWW

wow that’s pricey, having said that. do you (anyone) know IF these will come to Australia or do we just go buy the closest thing we can find and not bother waiting for something that might never happen or take months if it does happen.

Elliot Kotis

Oooooo. Sweet, it’s a nice phone. Wouldn’t mind having that in my pocket.
