Just four months after introducing us to their first Kogan branded 4G smartphone, the Kogan Agora 4G, Kogan is back again with a new model, announcing the Kogan Agora 4G+. They’ve also announced a new white model of the Kogan Agora 4G, as well as dropping the price.
Working again with hardware partner BenQ for the follow-up, Kogan has taken on board feedback from the Agora 4G to create the new 4G+, adding hardware touches here and there that should add to the user experience.
The phone retains the same 1.2GHz Quad-Core processor of the original, but now has double the RAM (2GB), which should help to smooth out any bumps or glitches experienced on its predecessor. It also has more storage, with a bump from 8GB up to 16GB, while still retaining the microSD card slot to allow you to expand. There’s even been a spec bump on the camera from an 8MP on the Kogan Agora 4G, up to a 13MP camera on the Kogan Agora 4G+.
Design of the Agora 4G+ is unchanged from the original, with the exact same design stylings included on the 4G+. The same red highlights on the black model are present, but now there’s a white model to go alongside it. The same capacative keys are used, a throwback to another time when it comes to Android even though Kogan and BenQ have loaded Android 4.4.2 onto the phone. Full specs of the phone include :
- 5” HD (1280×720) IPS LCD
- 1.2Ghz Quad Core
- 2GB RAM
- 16GB internal memory (expandable to 64 GB via Micro SD card)
- 13MP Rear Camera with 2MP Front-Facing camera
- Network:
- 2G: 850/900/1800/1900
- 3G: 850/900/2100
- 4G LTE Cat 4: 700/900/1800
- WLAN 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0 and Built-in FM
- KitKat (Android 4.4.2)
- 142.95×72.8×8.5mm @ 135 grams
- Battery: 2520mAh
With a fair few bumps in spec, the price hasn’t been greatly affected either. Kogan are still asking a relatively small $239 + delivery for the phone, pricing it a mere $10 more than the original when it first went on-sale. Shipping is variable, so check the website for more details. The phone is available in a choice of Black or White, with the phone expected to leave the warehouse in 1-2 weeks.
With the introduction of a new model, Kogan is also dropping the price of the original Kogan Agora 4G, as well as showing off a new variant in white. The Kogan Agora 4G will now cost a low $209 + shipping, a drop of $20. Kogan has also introduced a white model for pre-order which is due to ship on the 11th of December. While the white model loses the classy red highlights of the black model, it’s still a relatively decent looking phone.
Just like the original, we do hope to get some hands-on time with the Kogan Agora 4G+, but we expect stocks to be limited. If you’re in the market for a 4G phone, you probably should take a look.
I like how all those shiny new Samsung’s with capacitive buttons were released in the past. Samsung must have a time machine 😉
The specs and price look good but I wonder how it will perform in the real world.
