We recently learned that Samsung was working on another thin, all-metal, mid-range smartphone device – currently known as the Galaxy A7 – with some specs leaking thanks to Tenaa (the Chinese telecommunications equipment certification center). More details have now come to light about this elusive device thanks to SamMobile.
We previously knew that the Galaxy A7 would come with a 5.5-inch 1080p full HD display, a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 CPU along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB on board storage (although that won’t be expandable with no Micro SD slot on offer), and a 13MP rear and a 5MP front camera.
The new leak states the Galaxy A7 will be powered by a Exynos 5433 chipset – the same chip that powers the Galaxy Note 4 and most other high end Samsung devices in their non-Qualcomm incarnations. Apparertly we’re looking at clock speeds of 1.8GHz for the high power Cortex-A57 cores, and 1.3GHz for the Cortex-A53 cores that will take care of general tasks.
The Galaxy A7 will apparently come with a 2,600mAh battery and run Android 4.4 KitKat. The dimensions of the phone are 150×75×6.3mm and at 150g it’s not the lightest device you’ll pick up this (or next) year.
Launch date remains unknown, with some rumours pegging release around the same time as the Galaxy S6, although it seems unlikely that Samsung would want to dilute the attention its flagship device for 2015 will attract.
