Just a couple of days after Chrome 42 hit for Windows, Mac and Linux, Google has announced that Chrome v42 for Android is hitting the stable release channel as well. It’s a big release for a couple of reasons, primarily for some naff new features, but also because it signifies the last update that’ll be compatible with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The new features include the ability to receive notifications from enabled sites, adding favourite sites to the homescreen (as shown in the animation above) and the usual big fixes and speedy performance improvements.

The update to Chrome isn’t (at the time of writing) available on the Play Store, but soon will be. Until then, the APK is available on APK Mirror if you’re keen to get ahead of the curve.

What does the ” the ability to receive notifications from enabled sites” actually mean?

I suspect it would function in much the same way a native app does. For example, an email app can alert you in the notification bar about a new email – presumably a website in this latest version of Chrome could notify you of new content (just one example).

    Anyone else?
